Sister School Objective:
As sister schools, we want to bring students together from all different parts of the world so that they can learn about each other as individuals and learn about other cultures. We want students to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for global perspectives in confronting global issues. We wish student to communicate and share their life experiences, educational experiences and views of personal, local and world issues. This will include different approaches to education, ways of learning and things learned through school sources.

International Baccalaureate
With the knowledge that world education of the child is essential to the student's success in academics and in society, we have become an International Baccalaureate school. The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better, and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To address these issues, the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people value their differences.
Burnett Academy has adopted the Middle Years Program of the International Baccalaureate Organization as its magnet focus.
This program allows for a rigorous accelerated program that focuses on five areas of interaction: Approaches to Learning; Community and Service; Environment; Health and Social Education; and Human Creativity (Homo Faber). These five areas are integrated into every subject area: English/language arts, World Languages, Technology, Fine Arts, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Physical Education.
Part of the excitement of being at Burnett is the strong technology program in which each student participates. Instrumental Music, Studio and Digital Art, the anchors of the Fine Arts program, provide additional engagement. Students are assured opportunities to participate in integrated academics, social clubs, Peace Builders and other co-curricular activities, which including sports.
My class: Earth Science and Technology
Themes of the Earth Science class include earthquake and volcanic activity, weathering and erosion, Earth’s water, weather and environmental issues of the world. Technology and how it relates to science and every day life is interwoven throughout the Earth Science curricula. As an Earth Science teacher, I would like students to share Earth Science topics and how science and technology relate to each other, on an international level.
With great enthusiasm, I am looking forward to hearing from you.
